TOP-10 games releases in August 2025
/>What will we be playing in August 2025? Let's see!Top 10 game releases in August 2025
August 2025 is going to be insane for gamers. Seriously, I don't know how anyone's going to have time to play all these bangers dropping in just one month. We've got remakes of classics, brand new franchises, and some surprises that nobody saw coming.
I've been tracking all the release dates and hype levels, and honestly? This might be one of the best months for gaming in years. Let's dive into what's coming and why you should care.
1. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater - August 28
Okay, let's start with the big one. MGS Delta drops on August 28 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and if you grab the Digital Deluxe Edition, you get to play two days early on August 26.
Konami is basically rebuilding the entire PS2 classic from scratch. New graphics, better controls, enhanced audio - the works. They're even bringing back that weird Snake vs Monkey mini-game that everyone loved but nobody talks about.
For anyone who's never played Metal Gear Solid 3, this is your chance to see why people won't shut up about it. The story hits differently, and the jungle setting is perfect for stealth gameplay. Veterans get to see their favorite game looking better than ever.
The early access thing is tempting, not gonna lie:)
2. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance - August 29
SEGA's bringing back Shinobi, and they've got the Streets of Rage 4 people to do it. That's... actually brilliant. Lizardcube knows how to take old franchises and make them feel fresh without losing what made them special.
Joe Musashi is back, throwing shurikens and doing ninja stuff on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Switch version comes later, which is a bummer, but whatever.
The art style looks gorgeous from what I've seen. It's got that hand-drawn quality that Lizardcube nailed with their previous games. Combat looks smooth, platforming seems tight, and the boss fights look properly challenging.
If you've never played a Shinobi game, imagine if Ninja Gaiden had a baby with classic Castlevania. It's that good.
3. Gears of War: Reloaded - August 26
Plot twist - Gears is coming to PlayStation. Yeah, you read that right. After being Xbox exclusive forever, Marcus Fenix is finally making friends with PlayStation owners.
This isn't just a basic port either. They've updated the graphics, tweaked the AI, and the chainsaw bayonet has never looked more brutal. All the DLC is included too, so you're getting the complete package.
The multiplayer has cross-platform play, which means Xbox and PlayStation players can finally shoot each other. Cover-based shooting at its finest, except now everyone gets to experience it.
PlayStation folks are in for a treat. This game basically invented the third-person cover shooter genre, and it still holds up today.
4. Helldivers 2 - Xbox Series X/S - August 26
Remember when Helldivers 2 was everywhere and PlayStation players kept "accidentally" shooting each other while spreading democracy? Well, now Xbox players get to join the friendly fire chaos.
This game is pure gold if you have friends to play with. You drop onto alien planets, complete objectives, and try not to kill your teammates. Spoiler alert: You will kill your teammates. A lot.
The Xbox version has all the updates and fixes from the PlayStation launch, plus cross-platform play. So Xbox players can team up with their PlayStation and PC friends for maximum chaos.
Fair warning - this game will test your friendships. But in the best possible way.
5. Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar - August 27
Farming games are having a moment, and Grand Bazaar looks like it might be the next big thing. It's coming to Switch, Switch 2, and PC.
The twist here is you're not just farming - you're running a marketplace too. So you grow crops, raise animals, and then sell everything to traveling merchants. It's like Stardew Valley meets business management.
They've added seasonal festivals that mess with prices, reputation systems, and deeper relationships with townspeople. The Switch 2 version probably looks amazing, but we'll have to wait and see.
Perfect if you want to chill after all the shooting and ninja-ing from the other games this month.
6. Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Switch 2 - August 28
Kirby's getting the next-gen treatment on Switch 2. This was already a solid game on regular Switch, but the new version should look and run way better.
The post-apocalyptic setting was weird for Kirby, but it worked. Plus, Mouthful Mode, where Kirby eats cars and stuff? Pure genius. Don't ask me to explain it, just play it.
If you're getting a Switch 2, this might be the perfect game to show off what the new system can do. Nintendo knows how to make pretty games that actually use their hardware properly.
7. Mafia: The Old Country - August 2025
The Mafia series is going back to Sicily to show how it all started. No specific date yet, but it's happening in August somewhere.
Instead of 1920s America, we're getting early 1900s Italy. Rural villages, family honor, and the whole origin story of organized crime. Sounds way more personal and intimate than the big city settings we're used to.
The screenshots look incredible. Sicilian countryside, period-accurate everything, and probably some really dark storytelling about how good people get corrupted. Classic Mafia stuff.
8. Lost Soul Aside - August 2025
This one's wild. Started as one guy making a Final Fantasy tribute, then Sony saw it and decided to help turn it into a real game. The dedication paid off.
It's an action RPG with flashy combat and JRPG storytelling. Think Devil May Cry meets Final Fantasy VII, with combos and magic and boss fights that look absolutely insane.
The fact that this started as a passion project and became a full game gives me hope for indie developers everywhere. Sometimes the best games come from people who just love making games.
9. Dying Light: The Beast - August 2025
More zombie parkour, but darker this time. The title suggests we might be playing as something more monster than human, which could be interesting.
Techland knows how to make zombie games scary and fun at the same time. The day-night cycle in these games still gets my heart racing when the sun goes down.
New zombie types, better parkour, and more weapons to craft. If you liked the previous games, this is probably going to hit all the right spots.
10. Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 - Expanded Edition - August 2025
Hellblade 2 was already an incredible experience, and now we're getting more of it. The way this game handles mental health through gameplay is unlike anything else out there.
The audio design alone is worth the price. Wear headphones and prepare to have your mind blown. The expanded edition probably includes behind-the-scenes stuff and maybe additional story content.
If you missed this one earlier in the year, the expanded edition is the perfect excuse to finally experience one of gaming's most unique and powerful stories.
So, what are you waiting for?
August 2025 is going to be expensive. Between remakes of classics like Metal Gear Solid, new entries in beloved franchises, and completely fresh experiences, there's something for everyone.
The coolest thing? Console exclusives are becoming less exclusive. PlayStation players get Gears of War, Xbox players get Helldivers 2. Everyone wins.
My wallet doesn't win, but that's a problem for future me… Right now, I'm just excited to have this many good games dropping in one month. It's going to be a good time to be a gamer.
Just... maybe start saving money now. And clear your schedule. August is going to be busy.
