## About the Event

Prepare to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of Bits & Pretzels, where the brightest minds, innovators, and disruptors from every corner of the globe converge. # Hiring for the Apocalypse: Why Anthropic Wants Nuclear Experts on a $300k Salary

If you ever wanted to know how close we actually are to the sci-fi AI apocalypse, you don't need to read heavy research papers. You just need to open Anthropic’s official careers page. 

The AI giant behind Claude currently has over 32 high-stakes job openings designed around a single, very specific goal: stopping people from using artificial intelligence to build everything from human-made explosives to nuclear weapons. 

And if you happen to know how to assemble a nuclear warhead or handle dangerous chemical agents, Anthropic is willing to pay you anywhere from $285,000 to $330,000 a year to stop their AI from helping someone else do it.

### To Catch a Threat, Hire the Threat

It sounds like the plot of a Hollywood thriller, but in the AI industry, this practice is known as 'Red Teaming', stress-testing systems and bolstering defenses before a model ever goes live. 

As Anthropic officially explained: 

'That's why we regularly hire experts in a wide range of sensitive fields, people who understand these harms and how AI can advance them, to stress-test our systems and bolster our defenses before a model ever goes live.'

In simple terms: if you want to prevent an AI model from teaching a rogue actor how to enrich uranium or assemble dangerous explosives, you can’t just rely on standard software engineers. You need actual nuclear physicists, CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) specialists, and defense experts who know every dangerous loophole in the book. You have to hire those who know how to break things, just to build better shields.

### The $300,000 Doomsday Defender

So, what does a $300,000 'Doomsday Defender' actually do on a typical Tuesday? 

They spend their working hours constantly trying to jailbreak Claude. They write complex prompts, use niche technical jargon, and attempt to bypass safety filters to see if the model will spill classified nuclear secrets or step-by-step synthesis guides for dangerous materials. 

If the AI breaks and gives out dangerous instructions, the expert flags the vulnerability, and the engineering team patches the defense. It’s a constant cat-and-mouse game where experts are paid to think like villains so the AI doesn't accidentally become one.

### The Bottom Line

While tech companies love to hype up AI for drafting emails, creating art, or writing code, the reality behind the scenes is much darker and far more intense. AI models are becoming so knowledgeable that tech giants are forced to hire actual nuclear experts just to keep their systems from becoming a digital anarchy manual.

August is supposed to be the quiet month before the massive autumn release storm. Except nobody told about these five games. Between post-apocalyptic Japan, a 90-minute horror that’ll stay in your head way too long, and a sandbox where you control sand down to the pixel — here’s what’s actually worth your time this month.

#### August 4. Beast of Reincarnation

Welcome to Japan in the year 4026 — a world that lost to its own decay. Ruins overgrown with blight, and a silence broken only by your sword.

You play as Emma, infected by the very plague she's fighting. Her companion Koo — a blighted dog — completely changes how combat works. Instead of acting like a standard AI sidekick, Koo responds to direct commands: think turn-based tactical pause dropped right into real-time action. Land a parry, earn points, and spend them on Koo's abilities while constantly shifting between Sekiro-style parries and tactical planning. That “ not alone out here” feeling isn't just lore — it's built directly into the combat loop.

This is Game Freak's first AAA project outside Pokémon, and it feels like a statement: they can do way more than catch 'em all.

#### August 6. Monsters Are Coming!

If you missed this one on PC late last year, console players finally get their turn. “Monsters Are Coming!” is making its Xbox Series X|S debut and dropping straight into Game Pass.

The game blends tower defense with horde-survival mechanics. You control a peon defending a massive, moving city against endless waves of monsters. The catch: your character dying isn't game over. A run only ends when the city itself crumbles, so dying just drops you back into the action to rebuild before things get out of hand. Pick a class — from frontline brawlers to spell casters — and hold the line all the way to the bosses at the Arch.

If you love building defenses and watching them shred a horde, this is an easy pick.

#### August 10. T.W.I.R.L.

Probably the quietest release of the month, and easily the heaviest.

You're nine years old. It's 3 AM. Everyone in the house is dead asleep, and you sneak out of your room to do what you always do: “T.W.I.R.L.” Whatever that means. Taking heavy cues from P.T., the game builds dread through repetition rather than cheap jump scares. Every time you repeat the ritual, something feels slightly more wrong.

It’s a tight 90-minute psychological horror with multiple endings and full voice acting. Put headphones on, turn the lights off, and get ready for a story about self-worth and a secret carried for a lifetime.

#### August 13. Sandustry

If “T.W.I.R.L.” is about pure tension, “Sandustry” is the exact opposite — maximum flow state. The kind of game where you sit down for five minutes to fix a supply line and suddenly notice the sun coming up.

It's a factory automation game set in a 2D destructible sandbox where every single pixel is a physical resource. Dig, process, refine, and automate increasingly complex chains while uncovering the ruins of an ancient civilization. People describe it as Factorio meets Terraria, and given that its demo was one of the top-rated on Steam in 2025, the hype is real.

It launches directly into Early Access to build out features alongside the community (and includes Ukrainian localization right out of the gate).

#### August 27. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy

The month closes with what might be August's biggest hit for anyone who finished Innocence and Requiem with a lump in their throat.

Set 15 years before Requiem, this prequel swaps Amicia for Sophia, the smuggler we met in the main games. Now she takes center stage, sailing to the Minotaur's Island to uncover her own origins across a mix of Medieval and Minoan eras.

Gameplay-wise, Asobo Studio took a massive gamble: stealth takes a backseat here. Where the original games were built around hiding in the shadows, Sophia's story leans heavily into dynamic combat and environmental traversal — much closer to Tomb Raider or Uncharted. Sophia isn't Amicia, and she brings a completely different toolset to the table.

The game has officially gone gold, so no last-minute delays here.

On December 20, 2023, Kyiv — Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship [/nnov8](https://www.cyberinnov8.com/) and [Unicorn Nest](https://unicorn-nest.com/), with the support of the [USAID Program "Competitive Economy of Ukraine"](https://www.facebook.com/usaidcep.ua/), are launching the Fundraising Lab project to increase investment maturity and help attract investments for 10 Ukrainian startups.

The 6-month initiative will run from January to June 2024 and will help startups raise capital from local and international investors, including venture capital funds and business angels. The FundraisingLab project offers practical support in the form of development of investment attraction skills, assistance in organizing and supporting an investment round, as well as building connections with the community of local and international investors.

“One of the biggest current challenges for technology companies is access to international capital. FundraisingLab project is designed to improve the level of investment maturity of Ukrainian startups and help ten of them with practical experience of growth and fundraising from local and international investors and business angels,” Sviatoslav Sviatnenko, CEO of /nnov8.

Unicorn Nest, which has already helped more than 300 startups from different countries to attract capital, and whose team members have facilitated investments for Ukrainian startups and scaleups in the total amount of more than $70 million (including Dmarket, SOCPrime, Dreamteam, Lemon.io and others) will become a partner of the project , providing its unique experience and innovative services in the field of fundraising.

FundraisingLab project allows you to use the unique experience of attracting investments in combination with the use of innovative services and online tools for attracting capital.

Ukrainian technology startups that attract an institutional round of investments in the amount equivalent to $1 million or more are invited to participate in the project.
